South Somerset Lib Dems keep in touch via TV!

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 8th Oct 2007

Hundreds of residents in Lib Dem controlled South Somerset are using the newly revamped interactive DigiTV site that allows users to access the District Council's local services through their TV.

The new-look site gives users the opportunity to book Doctor's appointments, search for local job vacancies, report fly-tipping or other concerns and find out information about council services, by using just their TV and remote control.

As well as finding out about how benefits are claimed or what is going on in the local Active Communities Programme, users can also arrange for application forms or leaflets to be posted to their door by filling out a request in the "Report and Request" area of the site.

Information on Health and Safety, tourism, community safety, area development and waste services can also be found on the free site.

Cllr Tim Carroll, Portfolio Holder for Communications at South Somerset says, "The idea of the Digi TV site is to make our services available to as many people as possible in the easiest ways possible, especially to those who may not have a computer.

Having basic information on what we do for the public at the press of a button, is an excellent service and it works well. I am confident that the site is making a real difference to those who have discovered it. We have processed a number of requests so far that have come from the site, and the system has run smoothly. In this rural area of the country, it is even more important that we as the district council focus on reaching people in different ways. The Digi TV service provides new opportunities for people to get in touch."
