Improvements to Martock's Market House will begin within weeks.

At a meeting with South Somerset District Council this month, Martock Parish Council agreed to take over responsibility of the public toilets within the building from Monday 3 March - meaning that they were a step closer to fulfilling their plans to improve the community space.

The public toilets will be closed from the beginning of March for refurbishment, whilst the first set of alterations are carried out inside the building. Martock Parish Council expects to re-open the toilets in May.

By August the parish council hope to have completely refurbished the Market House to create a modern community office and meeting space, staffed by a full time parish clerk, that will provide a comprehensive information centre for residents and visitors. There will also be access to information about Martock's heritage and places of interest, and opportunities for other agencies and information service providers to use the building.
