Cllr Adrian Dobinson (LD, Berkley Down) has written to ASDA to demand that they fix the traffic lights at the junction of Wallbridge, Portway and New Road, which have been out of service for the last six days.

Cllr Dobinson says: "Somerset Highways tell me that they have not yet adopted these traffic lights, and they still belong to ASDA.  They must be fixed as a matter of urgency before a serious collision occurs, or a pedestrian is knocked down.

These lights are being continuously damaged by flood water, even though mitigation works are supposed to have been carried out in order to prevent flooding.  I have been campaigning to improve Mendip's reaction to flooding, but so far nothing has been improved by the Conservative administration.

These lights were located in a very dangerous place to start with; the pedestrian crossing should be much closer to ASDA.  I will be campaigning for the entire traffic lights and pedestrian crossing system in this part of my ward to be completely re-thought to make it both pedestrian and car-user friendly.  We really shouldn't be having school children, mums with buggies and elderly shoppers crossing the road, at the point where the traffic is heaviest."
