The plans, to build a new unit at Badgers Cross in Somerton, have caused a great deal of concern to local residents, and Mr Heath says that they should be able to attend the meeting and hear the arguments themselves. Mr Heath has written to the County Council asking them to consider holding the meeting which will consider the plans in Somerton
"I know how much interest has been generated by these plans, and it seems quite wrong to make people from Somerton go to Taunton to hear about what is planned for their town. The District Council has always been prepared to move meetings to the affected area when there is a great deal of public interest, and I hope the County Council, which is the planning authority for this proposal, will be prepared to be as accommodating.
"Councillors should be aware of the relevant issues and the wishes of local residents. They can do that best by coming to Somerton to hear for themselves."
