Cllr Hina Bokhari

Hina Bokhari is a Merton councillor and second on the Liberal Democrat list for the 2021 London Assembly elections.

Hina joined the Liberal Democrats after the snap election in 2017. She was born and raised in London and is the mother of two young children. Her father was an inspirational headteacher in Tooting, who taught her that education was the key to unlock any child’s potential.

Hina has taught for 20 years in some of London’s most deprived areas and founded two charities to help young people. She witnessed first hand the damaging effect that education cuts were having to schools and youth services. Hina couldn’t stay out of politics any longer and decided to stand as a local councillor. She won her first election, helping the Merton Lib Dems achieve their best results in 60 years. She became the first BAME councillor in the ward and first Muslim woman elected in the borough. She also stood in Sutton, Cheam and Worcester Park in the 2019 general election.

Hina is passionate about making London great for the next generation. She is already making a difference as a councillor in her borough and is ready to bring fresh ideas to London and to Parliament. Hina is determined to make sure young people have a stronger voice in London, to ensure their futures are safe from knife crime and to deal with the climate emergency now.

Cllr Joshua Burr

Josh is Deputy Leader of Mendip District Council, Chair of the Assets of Community Value Panel and Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services. He works as a maths teacher outside of Bristol. He is a governor at a local special school in Frome. His focus at the council is on supporting rural communities, ensuring a strong environmental policy and representing the young people across the district.

Simon Barfoot, Director, Blackmore Ricotech and Donate IT

Simon started Blackmore Ricotech in 1996 renting a desk and a telephone from a company in Mere, Wiltshire and buying and selling refurbished laptops.

Over the years the importance of data security and environmentally friendly recycling has led the company to becoming a leading UK Secure IT Asset Disposal (SITAD) firm and today operates from a purpose built 22,000sq ft facility near Warminster employing 35 people.

Clients vary from the large including the NHS, Govt Depts and Universities down to small local firms – with one thing in common: best practice in recycling safely.

Simon’s focus has changed too from just being a techie and he now plays active roles in both nature conservation and child poverty focussed charities. Fundraising is normally done “zero carbon” on a bicycle!
